Bible Passage: Matthew 21:12-17; Mark 11:15-19

This week the kids learnt that Jesus got mad. He got mad at the people who were misusing God's temple. It was supposed to be a place of worship, and instead, it was being used as a marketplace. This was not okay with Jesus, because Jesus knew, what you love the most, you will live for. And the people were not loving God most, but were distracted by what was around them -making money. We learnt that when the Pharisees asked Jesus why he thought he could go around bossing people in the temple, he replied that if they knocked the temple down, he would rebuild it in 3 days. We learnt that Jesus was actually calling Himself the temple – he was going to die and come back to life in 3 days.

Jesus called himself the temple because the temple, just like the tabernacle, and the garden of eden was a display of God wanting to be with His people. And then, God himself came to earth as Jesus! God with Us. He made a way for us to be with God through His death and resurrection.

This is great news! Jesus went back to heaven, after he came back to life, and he told His disciples that all those who follow Him, all those who repent and follow Jesus, he gives His Holy Spirit. When we give our lives to Jesus, we are now where the Spirit dwells! God is with us! This is why we worship Him. He gave everything so that we could be with Him. To live a life of worship with our whole lives, we say "thank you, I love you" in all we do.

We don't just come to church to worship, like they did at the temple. Nor should we get distracted by earthly things like money and possessions, or other things.  We worship Jesus with our whole lives by saying "thank you, I love you" everyday: singing, serving others, being kind, talking about the Good News with others, praying, reading our Bibles to know God more, giving offerings of money to Him.

Our whole lives are to be like the temple – a display of worship to God's glory. Our whole lives, gifts and talents can show people that God loves us and wants us to be with Him. We can say "thank you, I love you" and worship Him just like Jesus says! "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind."

Family Activity

Take a trip to the grocery store, or to a market/farmer's market. For preschoolers, you could play 'market place' with kitchen toys and pretend money. Talk about why using the temple as a market angered Jesus. The temple was a place of worship. What are ways we can worship (to say 'thank you, I love you') to Jesus with our lives/in our family? What distracts us from worshipping Jesus? (money, possessions/toys, fears, failures, thinking we are the best/better than others etc)

Pray together that we would not be distracted from Jesus and His love, but use our whole lives to say 'thank you, I love you' to Jesus.
